The One With Good Harbor Beach

Today, after several false starts, we finally got our chance to go to Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester. Now, what made today interesting was the water was actually closed for swimming and surfing - although I felt bad for the surfers because the waves were rollicking because Hurricane Erin was passing far out in the Atlantic, but sending in rough surf.

The waves were definitely pounding the shore - a fact enhanced by the idea we were there one hour before high tide (we stayed until just after high tide arrived at 11:28 AM). In fact, you could see the rip currents (which were definitely a danger). In fact, a few people who stepped into the water went a little to far, and the life guard whistles blew.

Incidentally, what was the reason the beaches were closed....sharks had been spotted there the past two days. In fact, we saw a harbor patrol boat in the area. My assumption was he was looking for potential sharks.

The visit was a memorable one!!!

The One With the Fireworks

Every year for the past several years, we try to see the Gloucester Fireworks. Traditionally, they are held the night before the fourth and are one of the best displays in the region.

This year was no exception. We went to Stage Fort Park in Gloucester and were mesmerized by the spectacular display. The fireworks were incredible. This year, they did feature food trucks, which actually made the sky brighter than normal....but that was not a problem.

The pyrotechnics themselves were splendid and captured an array of styles....and included three finales (we actually missed the final finale, thinking it had already happened). The only hiccup was one of the fireworks went low to the ground....though still out in the harbor, which seemed to be fine.

Parking was not as bad as usual, and they opened up a side gate on the grass lot, which helped immensely.

The One With the Good Harbor Beach

We went to Gloucester's Good Harbor beach today. It was a beautiful day for it. The tide was going out and the sun was shining.

We stopped and got a little Panera before going there. Then, we spent about two hours there.

The only hiccup was the inconsistent sunscreen. It was spray Neutrogena that did not go on smoothly. We all had slight red spots as a result of the poor spraying.

The One With Good Harbor Beach

Today, we decided to do something a little different. We actually decided to have a Beach Day.

Emmie has wanted to go to a Gloucester Beach for the past few years - mainly as a way to de stress - so we decided to do that today. First, when I think of North Shore beaches, I often think of ones that are rocky. But this one had the sand found like most Cape Cod beaches. It also had a small island to the left of the beach....one I would have loved to explore when I was a kid. The beach was wide, which was amazing. And you were allowed to play with different balls (we brought a football) on the beach. Amazing!!!

We spent about two hours there. We checked out the water - it was cold. Someone was surfing....which for the first time ever looked interesting to me. And the lifeguards were on the beach working on different things (including moving a large log).

After our stay, Kiff got the most expensive smoothie ever. We also went to Essex Seafood and got clam strips (well, I got chicken fingers). What a great way to end the day.
