Happy to be with you! I hope you like some of the things we have planned throughout the week:

The One With Mother's Day

Today was Mother's Day and we had a lot of fun. We had one plan - harbor cruise - but Emmie decided she wanted to do something different. We

• had quiche and pecan rolls for breakfast

• went on a 4.5 mile bike ride

• got lunch at Essex Seafood

• got ice cream

• watched Tangled (and Celtics beat 76ers in Game 7 of EC Semifinals).

We also got a few ideas for future mother's day things to do:

• Sylvan Street brunch

• Harbor Cruise in Boston

• Harbor Cruise in Gloucester

• Mother's Day Comedy Show

• Lilac Sunday at Arnold Aboreteum

• Appleton Farm picnic

• Mother's Day by the Sea at Beauport Hotel in Gloucester

Happy Mother's Day Emmie

The One Where Emmie Passes the SEI Test

Ah, the bane of every Massachusetts' teachers existence. The SEI dilemma. Do I take the course (all teachers have heard about that) or do I take the test (they've heard about that, too)?

What to do? What to do? What to do?

Well, recently, Emmie had to make that choice. I gave her a lot of feedback I had received about the course - which is one of several reasons I took the test - and she decided to give the test a go.

Now, I have to admit that the test is not one of the better constructed ones by Pearson, who normally do a pretty good job with these MTELs. This one has some flaws, but with some sound studying and strategy, I know I did well. But that essay - ZOINKS!

And that is what happened with Emmie. She studied a lot (I passed along my old resources to her...and there are so many better ones out now). She took the test. And got her feedback last night.

And she passed. And she did better than me on the essay, which I hope improved in nature since I took it!

Very impressive. Congratulations Emmie

The One With Emmie's Classroom

Yesterday, we had a fun day visiting Emmie's classroom. It was a great experience. She is heading back to school to teach for the first time - full time - in a while.

She is excited.

It is great to see her in the classroom. All four of us went in to help her set up. The room is going to be great!
