The One With Leap Day
Today is February 29, 2020....otherwise known as leap day.
We had a busy extra day today. It included:
• visit to two libraries
• Kiff's last regular season basketball game
• Bri's dance
• three grocery store trips
• trip to get new lights for the house
• food out
Good, but exhausting, day!
Happy Leap Day. It only comes once every four years.

The One with Knives Out
We just came home from seeing Knives Out. What a fun movie.
What made it most fun is that some of the scenes were filmed in my hometown of Natick....and I could clearly see some landmarks.
1. West Central Street
2. St. Patrick's Church
3. The area opposite Middlesex Savings Bank
4. The backside of the business opposite the police station that have a parking lot.
Perhaps my favorite was the are just past Elm Bank where the exterior of the mansion was filmed. Online, it gives little information because it is a private residence and they are trying to keep it from being visited by movie goers. Understandable! But I totally recognize it as the mansion on that spooky road between Wellesley and Natick. As soon as I saw it in the movie, I said, "I've seen that building before."
Definitely a fun movie to watch.

The One With Harriet
We watched the Harriet Tubman movie tonight. Wow! What a movie!!!
Amazing acting. Stirring story. Sure, some of it was more narrative than history, but it was a riveting plot that reminds us of the past and keeps us thinking about the future.

The One Where We Cross Over to Boy Scouts
Today is World Boy Scout Day. And, it wouldn't be complete without mentioning an important event that happened at our house yesterday. Last night, Kiff completed four years of hard work and crossed over at Cub Scouts.
It was a culmination of so many amazing experiences! Hikes, games, events, skills - four years of taking a small group of boys and preparing them for the fun and challenge of Boy Scouts. We lost a few members along the way - which was sad to see - but we did so many amazing things.
The night itself was fun. There was food from Texas Roadhouse. A blessing. Awards and the crossover. And entertainment....though Kiff and I had to leave early to see Bri's play.
Last night, Mr. D and I had to help a bit with the ceremony, which made it doubly memorably. And, in the end, all of the scouts crossed marking the end of one adventure and the beginning of a new one.
The One With Opening Night
Finally, it arrived. After months of hard work, staying after school, and challenging herself, Bri took stay in her school's performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Last night was opening night.
Now, unfortunately Kiff and I had to arrive late - we had an Arrow of Light ceremony (see the entry that will come before this on the right timeline), and we had a little trouble getting passed locked doors.
But, once intermission arrived, we were able to enjoy the second have of the opening night. And, it was awesome. Bri, dressed in her red soldier uniform, looked like she was thoroughly enjoying herself...which was great to see.
Although we were only there for the second act, it was clear...Bri will probably be doing more shows in the future.

The One With Ice Cream for Breakfast
Today, Bri, Kiff, and I went to our fifth (or sixth, or seventh) Ice Cream for Breakfast event at Cherry Hill. It is always amazing and always fun. And it is always a fundraiser that makes money for a great cause.
Kiff: got an donut sundae that, as usual, he could not finish
Bri: got cinnabon thay, as usual, she could not finish
Emmie: got coffee donut
Me: maple bacon with real bacon bits....yum!
And we definitely saw some familiar faces.
We've learned from the past to get there a little early. Like last year, we left around 7:40. The line was a lot bigger this year because they removed the whole "snake wind" from the line. We were behind the building when we lined up...and it was probably 50 people deep. So - note to self - get there earlier next year because I believe they actually opened before 8:00.
Fortunately, it was not as cold as previous years, which is great! There had been a light dusting of snow on the ground, so there was a chill in the air...but it was about 33° or 34°F.
The One With the Last Scout Meeting at the Daws
It was hard to believe that four years of cub scouting and meeting at Mr. D's house came to an end this past Thursday. The scouts put the wraps on their Arrow of Light arrows as well as the rescue movie they made last year.
That was four years of amazing memories.
Four years of hikes,
and meetings,
and awards,
and building things.
What a wonderful four years it has been...and what an amazing group of scouts we've had. Some have moved, some have moved on, and some will be friends for life.
We will miss this group!
