The One With Colin Jost

 

 

Tonight, we had the opportunity to go to MGM Fenway to see Colin Jost. What a great show!!

 We started the night be going to the Cask and Flagon. It was a good take, as usual.

Then, we made our way down to MGM. We were able to quickly get in and had good seats. The show actually featured three different openers, including another one from SNL as well. The first opener was solid. The second one was a little new, so he was still working on things. The third one - the guy from SNL - was hilarious. And Colin Jost was amazing. He was funny, but, as a former student at Harvard, also enjoyed interacting with a Boston crowd....particularly one that was interested in where Scarlett Johanson was.

 He even stayed longer than he was supposed to, answering questions from the crowd at the end (several of which were Scarlett related). After we left, Emmie mentioned that the person next to us looked like his mother. In fact, we are pretty sure, if she was indeed there, we spent the evening next to her.

All and all, it was a great night.

 

The One With Sal

 

 

On February 28, Kiff and I ventured up to Portland Maine to see a comedy show featuring Sal Vulcano from Impractical Jokers.

 The word "ventured" certainly is an apt description. We left around 5:20 and promptly ran into snow along the way. Yikes! It slowed down traffic and we made it to Portland just in time.

 The Venue - the Merrill Auditorium - was quite a nice place. Homey, plenty of parking nearby, and easy to get in and out of.

The show itself was great and memorable. There was a host - who did a little comedy himself. Then, one of the writers of the show came out to do a set of jokes. He was really good. However, he encountered something I have never seen in person at a show before - a heckler. And, the heckler heckled  not once, but twice. Still, he did a great job plugging away.

Sal was awesome. He was definitely animated, particularly after hearing the heckler in the back. He got into chatting with a crowd and was quite a hoot! In fact, his set was amazing. We would definitely see him again. He joked about his life, his marriage, the fact he became a father for the second time, and how he planned on protecting his house with a machete. All and all, an awesome show!

The One With Bored Teachers

 

 

Emmie and I rarely have date nights these days, so when the opportunity arrives, we try to take advantage of it. And, we had a great opportunity to see The Bored Teachers comedy show.

Emmie and I grabbed a quick bite to eat at Double Bull before heading out. Then, we worked our way toward the Chevalier Theater, which is always a fun spot to see a show. Highly recommended.

When we got there, we were not too sure what to expect. But, the night was dazzling with four teachers - or former teachers - who took the stage to do standup. And each comedian was amazing, drawing from their own experience to capture to essence, and humor, of being a teacher, in 20 minute segments.

It was a fantastic night!!! Emmie saw a co-worker who she chatted with and I believe I saw one, too. And a great show. We are looking forward to catching them the next time around.

The One With Trevor Noah at the Chevalier

 

 

Today, we went to see Trevor Noah, the comedian who used to host the daily show.  Needless, to say, it was an amazing show!!!

We started off the night by going to the Double Bar Grill in Peabody. Although we were running late - they weren't. We had a super supper - and even caught the end of the Game 1 win by the Celtics over the Hawks in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

Then, we were off to the Chevalier Theater in Medford. We didn't know what to expect from the theater, but we were pleasant surprised at how amazing it was. It is an old school theater, literally. It was attached to an old school which is now an apartment building. Parking on the street proved to be easy - so much easier than going to Boston. And it was easy to get in and out of.

The show itself was fantastic, too. The opener was hilarious - one that Kiff is hoping to see in the future. Trevor Noah's set was spot on, too - from discussions about sports, national anthems, to Bostonians, to politics, to trials, he had one great series of jokes after another.

When the night was over, we all left hoping to see him again on his next tour.
