The One With Open House Night

 

 

Tonight, Emmie and I came back from DHS Open House. It was the fourth Open House we had at DHS, which is always a fun night. As we have done in the past, we had to do a little divide and conquer - particularly where we had both kiddoes up there.

 Emmie took on Kiff's schedule while I went to Bri's...though we did overlap in band. Because Bri had a study, we were able to both go to Kiff's chemistry class - which had some cool experiments. And, Emmie came to Bri's "Hero" English class.

All and all it was fun. What was neat was - like years in the past - the National Honor Society seniors were there to help navigate.  This year, Bri got to be one of them and it was super cool. They were all wearing their blue class of 2025 shirts! Pretty keen.

It was a fun night and we saw lots of families, which makes it extra fun. However, it was slightly bittersweet, too. It marked the 13th - and final - open house we will be going to for Bri. It is so hard to believe!!!

The One With Open House

This past week, we also had the chance to go to HMRS open house. It was an amazing experience.

We actually got to live the life of a 6th grader at the school and follow their schedule, which is something they do at my school as well. I now know why parents complain about the speed of it....it does make for a choppy, albeit quick night. But it worked.

However, the big thing we learned was that Bri has some amazing teachers. They all were passionate about what they teach. And I could make a connection with each teacher and someone I teach with as well.

Here is hoping she is off to a long and memorable career at HMRS.

The One With Town Wide Open House

This past week as the annual townwide open house. It was a blast. It was the first time we were able to go the entire time from 4:00 to 7:00 and was quite memorable.

Here are a few highlights:

• The Electric Company had rides in the bucket truck. Bri and Kiff looked great in that. They also had a chance for people to make cookies. Yum! The cookies tasted awesome.

• Town Hall is where the Police Department was stationed because their actual station is being renovated. There were a few cars to tour, great hot dog and chips that we ate (for a quick supper), and a dunk tank...where Bri and Kiff were able to dunk someone. We grabbed some popcorn and headed by trolley to the next stop.

• The trolley ride was packed, but nice. It was longer than most because Endicott Park was added as a stop.

• Endicott was fun. They had apple cider and cider sugar donuts (which tasted great!!!). There, Bri and Kiff decorated a pumpkin and grabbed a mini pumpkin).

• Our final stop was the Fire Department. Kiff dressed in full gear, including a 40 pound pack on his back. It looked great. Then, they went through the obstacle course.

Finally, it was 7:00 and time to go home! All an all, it was a fabulous experience. And a great open house.

The One With Open House Week

Ah, it is open house this week. The time when we get to know how our kiddoes are doing...and I get to showcase what we do this year.

We learned a lot from Kiff's one this week. Sounds like he will have a great year.

As for me...open house is today.

The One Where We Go to School Every Night

Phew!

What a busy week. This was the week of "Night School."  Each day in the middle of the week had a different event related to Bri or Kiff's school.

Tuesday night was Bri's art show. It was a lot of fun. The students put on a choral performance in the gym, which was fun to see. Then, scattered throughout the building were pieces of art they had made. Bri's included a spring scene and owl art.

Wednesday night brought us to the high school. There, it was time of Kiff's parent orientation for kindergarten. Wow. That was wild! It was hard to believe that he is going to kindergarten. It was funny being "second-timers" at that orientation...you could hear some interesting questions from "first-timers," including questions about school security. At the end, we ran into a few people we knew.

Finally, the wild week was capped of by Open House Thursday at Bri's school. There, she participated in a performance about weather. Her class did reader's theater and she was the Sun. At the end, she actually said, "See you later...I'm off to the beach" which got a laugh. After, we visited her classroom.

It was a busy week...with a lot of school connections. But, it was a lot of fun!
