The One With Mayflower Beach

 

 

We spent some time down at the Cape and we had the pleasure of going to Mayflower Beach, on the bayside of the Cape. Normally, it would have been croweded but we picked a cool and windy day! A cold front had just passed through and the wind was whipping. The white caps were amazing, despite the fact it was low tide. In fact, it was so low that we were able to see people walking far out on the sand.

 

More interesting was  the fact that there were para-surfers using the windy conditions to surf with parasails. It was incredible to watch. And the beach was amazing!!!

The One With Naked Gun

 

 

Earlier today, we saw the new Naked Gun movie. Full disclosure - I was not too sure how I would like it. Seeing Liam Neeson in a comedy was not what I typically have in mind as good movie fodder.

 

However, it turned out to be a great take. The movie follows the makeup of the originals. Liam Neeson is Frank Drebin Jr.....son of Leslie Nelson's character (I like how the actor's names are similar). The movie itself was the same type of "dumb funny" as the original.

 

 Bri and Kiff liked it, tho Bri, who recently saw the original, liked the OG better. Emmie gave it 5 out of 10. 

 

Overall, a good movie. 

The One With Jaws 50th Anniversary

 

 

Tonight, we had a cool opportunity to head to the Cape Cinema in Dennis. This old cinema, which rumor has it ran the first premier of the Wizard of Oz (because Margaret Hamilton was playing at the Dennis Theater at the time in 1939 and had the chance to have it premiered), is a true gem. I have so many movie memories there. As a kid, before it was air conditioned, I saw Author, Author and Four Seasons there with my parents and aunt and uncle (definitely not kid fun movies). Later, I saw the legendarily disappointing Blair Witch Project there with Mark and Mike

 So, tonight, we had a chance to make new history.  Emmie, Bri, Kiff, and I headed down to see the 50th anniversary showing of Jaws! what finer place to see it....particularly on Cape Cod where the sharks now roam (back when I first saw it down the Cape years ago, that was purely fiction).

It was great to see if on the big screen with other people down the Cape and it had a certain essence that could not be beat!!! What a phenomenal experience. 

The One With Cape Cod

 

 

We took a very action packed overnight trip to the Cape these past two days. We left on Sunday morning, beating most traffic down - though there was a lot of traffic coming off the Cape. 

The first big ticket item was to go to Hobby Lobby. This store, which Emmie went to briefly in NH, was a hit with Emmie. She found a ton of stuff, as did Bri (for a spa day party). Kiff also found an ugly dogs playing poker picture in a frame that he fell in love with.

After that. we headed to the go-karts, which is aways fun. Kiff got a dud of a cart, while Bri was able to race off to first place in one of her races. Those driver's ed classes came in handy.

We went to Mark and Carols to celebrate a birthday cookout. We had a fun time, enjoying the deck and the cool air at the time (it had been cloudy and humid all day).

The following morning, we hit Hearth and Kettle. Bri actually drove us there and got the first taste of Cape traffic. Then, we did a few things including just resting and reading. We went to the beach and then trekked home.

Overall, it was a calm and relaxing overnighter.

The One With the Cape Cod Visit

 

 

This Sunday through Tuesday, we spent some time at the Cape. We were able to enjoy a visit with Mike and Rachael, Oliver and Elliott. It was nice to see them in person for the first time in about six or seven years. It was great.

 

We then spent some time at the Go-Karts and the trampolines. Always a fan favorite.

 

We also had a chance to visit Harwichport, which makes for some fun, too. All and all, it was a great visit.

Summer Vacation Day Seven: The With a Visit to Nani's and Lunch at Sea Dog

 

We wrapped up out stay with a visit to Nani's house, which is always fun. She enjoyed sharing beauty secrets with Bri and talked about the fourth of July.

We also found the Ping Pong table! Hallelujah!

We did go to the Sea Dog Pub. Although I liked it - loved the Tater Tots - it was not a hit with everyone!

The One With The Busy Good Friday And Hot Wheels

 

 

 

Yesterday was Good Friday. Unlike most Good Fridays that I remember, it was fairly sunny but chilly (most Good Fridays in my memory are rainy....though there were passing showers yesterday).

 

We had quite a busy Good Friday. We started by getting an oil change in Emmie's car and having a quick MacDs breakfast. We wanted to get a good start on the day. Then, we watched an episode of LEAVE IT TO BEAVER as we ate. It was the one where Wally was in charge of the blind date committee. I love that one.

 

Next, we headed to visit my mom at the Cape. We brought an Easter basket and also some Easter decorations to add a little spring festivities to the house down there. We spend a couple hours there, had lunch from the Yarmouth House of Pizza, and had a brief visit from others as well.

 

When we headed off, we voyaged to Gillette Stadium, where we went to the HOT WHEELS exhibit across the street. That was a blast. We saw all sorts of life sized - and monster truck sized - hot wheel cars. We saw the largest car in the World (Big Foot 10 I believe), which was several stories high. Amazing wheels. We saw lots of other great cars including bone crusher and a yellow and black Camaro I'd love to own.

 

Then we went to Five Guys Burgers and Fries, which was great. We voyaged home, where we watched something on TV. The Kids went to bed and Emmie and I watched SCHOOL OF LIFE, a great made for TV movie starring a young Ryan Reynolds as a teacher. It was awesome. Then, Emmie and I capped off a great evening and went to bed.

 

What a great day!!!

The One With Taylor Swift's House

 This weekend, we spent some time down Cape Cod. We took a ride to Hyannis - it was crowded although most people had masks....some, to our surprise, did not.

 

After we got to a particularly crowded section of town, we turned down Sea Street to take a ride by the ocean. As we were going down several roads, I realized we were down in celebrity row, where the houses of the rich and famous of Hyannisport were.

Needless to say, Kiff, a huge Taylor Swift fan was excited. We tried out best to see if we could see her house, but we could not get too far. We did get a glimpse of part of the Kennedy compound. Emmie kept her eye out from Chris Pratt....but I don't think we saw him either.

However, it was a fun ride nonetheless...and one we hope to take again!!!

The One With The Yarmouth Drive In (delayed post)

 

 

Although this entry was posted later than usual, two nights ago (August 14) we went to the Yarmouth Drive In

 

 

The Drive In was located on the site of the original Drive In when I was a kid. Although I don’t remember seeing any movies at the Drive In, it was a local landmark for years.

 

 

Last night, we went to see a double feature consisting of JAWS and JAWS II. What a treat. The screens were fantastic with a brilliant LED appeal that puts Jaws in a whole new light, literally. It was a ton of fun…and there really wasn’t a bad seat in the house. We did realize that we should bring a small radio next time.

 

 

We ordered some snacks there to see what they were like….they were good.

 

 

It was a fun night. It was awesome to see Jaws down the Cape (like I had done years ago as a kid for the first time on its ten year anniversary). We did not stay too long for the second feature because the audio was off and the movie was lagging.

 

The One Where We Review June

The One With a Busy Three Days

These past three days, we had the opportunity to enjoy Cape Cod once again. And we definitely enjoyed it.

1. Went to Land Ho! for lunch....always a favorite

2. Visited Chatham's Light House and beach with shark warning flag (borrowed from South African ones...a sample is below) . It is the first time I have ever seen that. How weird.

3. We toured Chatham, which Bri and Kiff liked.

4. Went to Nut Job 2....it was fun

5. Visited mom three times

6. Went to Go Karts in Harwich for the first time since I has about 8....what a blast!

7. Had breakfast at Bonnatts. That was fun.
