The One With the Boston College Tour

 

 

July 11, 2024 - 22 years to the day of Emmie and my first date, another epic first occurred. I got to go with Bri tour Boston College on a college visit. It was an amazing experience and very surreal. After all, I graduated there 40 years ago.

To be honest, there were a few things I found out. First, BC has changed a lot. The standards of who they let in has changed (and the number of admitted students has dropped a ton). One of the speakers, when asked about SAT scores, said that in some majors 1340 would be acceptable and others, they might expect 1500. 1500! Are you serious?

After the realizing that I would never be admitted to BC if I applied now settled in (fortunately Bri is a better student), we enjoyed touring a variety of places on Campus. We went to several of the halls, including Gasson Hall, and visited a few of the classrooms, as well as the Bookstore area - always fun.

When we were done, we went to the Bookstore and also got a quick snack in the dining hall. Lots of fond memories came flooding back during my time there, and I showed Bri a few of my favorite spots. I tried to show here her the School of Education, but most of that was being revamped.

It was a fun day and we had a blast! I was also happy to hear that Bri was sincerely interested in going there, particularly after the tour.

The One With the BC Hockey Game

 

On Friday, we had the chance to see the Boston College Women's Season finale at BC.  What a great game.


The women played against the Providence Friars. They had a fairly tight game when we arrived in between the first and second period, holding a 2-1 score. However, we saw them score four goals in the second period and another in the third.  Wow!


Bri and Kiff really enjoyed the game and asked a ton of questions. Bri did feel bad for the Friars because of the final score, but they thoroughly enjoyed the event.


The only disappointment - BC now charges for parking in the garage.


Really! Really, like you need that extra money.


But we capped the night off with a trip to the Outback. A great way to end a long week.

The One Where We Went to a Hockey Game

Ah, Friday. Glorious Friday.

It was a fun day at our house, but not for the typical reason. It was a day that provided a respite from the normalcy. It was a day that we went to see a hockey game at Boston College.

A night out. A rarity of sorts. But a much needed diversion.

It started off great...with a quick dinner out. Always a good time.

We were able to get on the road by 6:15 PM and miss most of the traffic, as well as most of the first period. But that is okay. We arrived and - although it took a while for us to get in - between getting tickets at the will call and being told we could not take a bottled water in (COME ON!), we were able to work our way to the seats.

Of course, when we got to our seats, someone was in them. Surprise, surprise! That is one of my real pet peeves...people just seat squatting until you get there. ARGHHHH! They quickly left. In fact, it did appear that this was a common occurrence because all sorts of people in our section moved to relinquish the seats they borrowed. A couple of folks even asked if we were looking for their seats because they had "borrowed" the ones they were in. Nice!

However, the game was good. Providence took a 2-1 lead in the second period, but the Eagles bounced back. In fact, the game was pretty good...however, it was hard to concentrate on it fully. Looking around - and having a flood of memories return - it is hard to fully watch a game. Seeing people interact as if they were at a social club or business meeting was particularly funny. And, seeing some of the fans get a little too into it was a riot.

Overall, it was a great game. We got out when the Eagles were ahead 3-2 with 5:00 minutes left in the third. Ironically, they scored two more goals to win 5-2.

Yet, it is not the score that we were looking for, but the time away...and the experience.
