The One With the Last Winter Guard Ever

This post is fun - and sad - to write at the same time. The DHS winter guard competed in their finals in Salem, capping off a fun year of NESBA performances.

This year the team was solid. Bri was captain again. And Emmie and I helped out as we have the past few years.

As they performed their show one last time, I got caught up in the emotion. It was the last time I'd see Bri perform on the team in high school.

They ended up doing well in the end, and it was a great season. A memorable moment at Salem.

The One With Black Bag

Emmie, Kif, and I spent the evening at AMC Danvers watching the movie Black Bag. While I did not have it on my must see list, I did think it sounded interesting, particularly where it was a spy thriller.

Ironically, it was not the type of spy thriller in the vain of James Bond, Jason Bourne, or No Way out. It was basically Bridge of Spies meets Twelve Angry Men with a solid focus on character development and a character driven plot.

Essentially, there is not a lot of action - only plot development and dialogue. Intriguing, yes. But, not fully my cup of tea. Emmie liked it and Kiff was a fan.

Overall, I would give it a 7 out of 10.

The One With the Little Mermaid

This weekend, I helped out (only for a couple performances) with the annual Kennedy Musical. This time, we were doing The Little Mermaid. It was an interesting and fun interpretation of the musical...and definitely great to see.

Many of my students were part of it, as well as seventh graders who I might get next year. Along with that, it is always great to be part of the tradition I helped start in 1997. It is hard to believe that it will be coming on 30 years soon. Wow.

Great show and a cool cast. And some great sets, too!!!

The One With Mickey 17

Chiff and I traversed to see a rather odd movie, about clones and future wars. It was called Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattison as the title character (who plays several different versions and personalities of his cloned self).

The movie was set in the future and, to put it mildly, was odd. Every time a Mickey 17 dies, a new one, that has been cloned, is released. However, there end up being two Mickeys when one doesn't die as expected, creating a multitude of problems.

It was a neat idea, but really gets unraveled by the end. Still, I am glad I saw it.
